ProtectSeniors.Org - A Retiree Healthcare
Advocacy Group

Subsidized retiree healthcare was an obligation to be paid by corporations, forever. The retiree healthcare benefit  was not a gift from benevolent management. The retiree healthcare subsidy was earned by the employee's loyalty, hard work, reduced wages, and fewer vacation/holidays.

For their work, Employees accepted a verbal contract for future healthcare payments as a retiree. Corporations made this contract so they would not have to lay out hard cash at the time the work was performed. General Motors was one of the first to renege on that 100% paid healthcare commitment to retirees. The GM retirees fought back in the courts. After about six years and a million dollars in court costs, a courageous group of General Motors retirees lost at the US Supreme Court. That loss emboldened other corporations to take away earned, subsidized or fully paid, healthcare from their retiree family.

How could this happen?

Corporate America crafted a slick PR campaign which sold courts, the press and many of us on the erroneous concept that paying for retiree healthcare was somehow a "GENEROUS GIFT" provided by corporations to their retiree family. The federal government finally documents this sad fact in Jan, 2007. We all thought that the HEALTHCARE SUBSIDY IN RETIREMENT, WAS A CORPORATE OBLIGATION - NO DIFFERENT FROM THE PENSION OR ANY OTHER COMPANY DEBT. WE WERE WRONG! ACCORDING TO THE SUPREME COURT IT IS PERFECTLY LEGAL FOR A COMPANY TO ERASE THAT OBLIGATION TO RETIREES WITHOUT CONSEQUENCE.

Our Mission

To pursue a legislative remedy for the court battle won by Corporate America: Pass HR1322, The Emergency Retiree Health Benefits Protection Act, the bill that makes it illegal to take away retiree Healthcare benefits from those very Retirees who EARNED them.

How can you get more involved?

As a Member of ProtectSeniors.Org You Can Join Our Political Action Committee
We have formed a Political Action Committee (PAC) to allow us to donate funds to political candidates and political organizations who will support our position regarding retiree subsidized healthcare. By law, these donations must be through a separate organization called a Political Action Committee (PAC). All donations to The ProtectSeniors Political Action Committee (PAC) are voluntary to our members and not tax deductible. While it costs extra to run a PAC and carefully account and report all expenditures to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) we believe we must accept this cost to pull even with Corporate America which spends many millions of dollars on political campaigns each and every election with their own well funded PACs.

In a nut shell, we need money to run ProtectSeniors.Org and we need money to give to politicians who will help us pass HR1322.
Click here to go to the PAC page.
